Thanks for Ten Years of Sand on the Riverfront
Riverfront’s joint boards of directors met recently and determined that Sand on the Riverfront, an annual fundraiser held in La Crosse, will be retired. While this event has raised awareness and money over the past 10 years, supporting Riverfront’s mission to provide innovative support for individuals with disabilities, the costs associated with executing the event have steadily increased. With rising costs in mind, and knowing that special event fundraisers have a life cycle, the boards of directors believe 2012 is the time to redirect Riverfront’s fundraising efforts.
Riverfront is deeply appreciative of the grass roots support of the businesses, organizations and people who have contributed to this annual event. “We are especially grateful for the many years of support from our major sponsors, CenturyTel, Mathy Construction and The Big E. Without their partnership, this event would not have been possible,” says Riverfront’s president and CEO, Marcia Jagodzinske. “We also want to thank the many creative sand sculpture teams who literally helped shape this event. Leadership and guidance for the sand sculptures has been provided by master sculptor Mike Martino, and we are grateful to have had him on our team.”
There have been sponsorships, donations, and volunteers from so many in the community involved with this fundraiser, and their ongoing support has played a vital role in Sand on the Riverfront. Just a few of those who have contributed for a number of years include:
- Coulee Bank
- Firefighter’s Credit Union
- Fowler and Hammer
- Logistics Health Incorporated
- Mayo Health System
- Midwest Family Broadcasting
- Pepsi
- Radisson Hotel
- Robertson Ryan
- SSE Music
- Three Sixty Real Estate
- Wal-Mart
- Wettstein Brothers Electric
- WKBT
- Xcel Energy
“Riverfront appreciates all the support we’ve received for Sand on the Riverfront. We look forward to partnering on other fundraising ventures to raise money to support our mission,” says Jadgodzinske. “Thank you all for 10 years of fun!”
In appreciation,
Marcia Jagodzinske

Riverfront Position Paper Advocates on Behalf of Persons with Disabilities
One of the advocacy recommendations in Riverfront’s recently released position paper will be explored by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. They will look at the recommendation to change the process of reporting suspected abuse by consolidating the reporting to a single point of entry.
Right now when a Wisconsin provider suspects a participant is being abused, the reporting structure can be overly complex and a barrier to safety. Today filing a suspected abuse report involves as many as:
- Five separate reports
- Five separate agencies
- Five separate investigations
According to Marcia Jadgodzinske, President and CEO of Riverfront, “Establishing a single point of entry for reports of suspected abuse creates a more collaborative and effective approach to safety and it presents opportunities to use limited resources more effectively.”
Riverfront, Inc. began its mission in 1977 as a private, nonprofit organization to provide employment, independent living, and leisure opportunities to adults with disabilities in La Crosse County. Since then, the organization has grown to support more than 2,300 individuals annually. Riverfront operates from seven locations in six different counties throughout western and southern Wisconsin and south eastern Minnesota. For more information, visit www.riverfrontinc.org.
