The right work environment
Depending on where you live and your interests and skills, the employment team will help you decide the best work environment for you. You might work in one of our production facilities or a local business or non-profit organization.
Our Employment Services process
There are a couple ways to go about finding the right job for you. Does any of this describe you?
I’m not sure I want to do, or what I can do
If you’re unsure about a job, we’ll help you find your strongest job skills. With your skills in mind, we may take you on tours at businesses and even try out different jobs at different companies so you can decide what fits you best.
I know what kind of work I want to do, and I’m ready to try it
If there’s something special you’d like to do, you’ll probably work with Riverfront to do the job on a trial basis at a real employer to see if there is any special support you need to do the job successfully.
I know what I want to do, but I’m not sure I could get that kind of job
Everybody starts someplace. If your dream job seems far off, we’ll help you set some goals, figure out how to get there, and help you along the way.
I’ve never had a job. How do I look for one?
With Riverfront’s help, you’ll learn a lot of job search skills, like how to contact an employer and how to fill out a job application. You can get help writing a resume, registering with online job centers and even have practice interviews at Riverfront!
What about modifications for my disability?
You know yourself best. Just tell us what you think you might need, we’ll watch you at work, and together we’ll make sure you have a work environment that is adapted to your needs. Perhaps you’ll need a lower table, or maybe the work equipment can be adjusted for you.
None of this describes me. Now what?
No problem! Each job search is as individual as the person looking, so we expect a lot of different situations. Just contact us—we’re ready to work with you!
Starting your job with your own job coach
Sometimes the next step is to work at the job site for a few weeks to see how it goes. You’ll have a Riverfront staff member—your own job coach—on the job with you. If there are any parts of the job you need help with, we’re right there with you.
Your job coach will do more than just help you with the work. Your job coach is there to provide you with as much support as you need, help you communicate with your employer and co-workers, and make new friends.
Becoming independent at work
As you get better at your job you’ll start working more and more of your shift on your own, until you reach a point that you, your job coach and your employer think you don’t need coaching anymore.
You can usually keep your job coach as long as you need to. Some people always have a coach, but most prefer to work on their own once they feel they know the job.
