Clerical Skills Training

Three individualized clerical skills training courses are taught at Riverfront. The courses are designed to prepare individuals to obtain entry-level clerical employment. Each course is designed to meet the needs of the student and is taught in a one-to-one setting.

The course focuses are as follows:

  • Level 1 - Data entry, including alpha numeric and ten key
  • Level 2 - Data entry and word processing
  • Level 3 - Data entry, word processing, spreadsheets and databases

Dependent on the course level, the course may include Internet exploration and use of email, proofreading, mail processing, telephone techniques, record keeping, machine operation, office etiquette, mathematics and business English.

Hands-on learning experience may include simulated work and paid work. Data entry students participate in a four-hour simulated work experience. Level Two and Three students participate in an eight-hour paid internship at the conclusion of their course work.

A certificate of completion is awarded after achieving

  • 100% attendance
  • 100% assignment completion
  • internship completion

Course graduates are prepared for employment in the following types of positions:

  • Level 1 - Data entry
  • Level 2 - Data entry, word processing, clerk typist
  • Level 3 - Data entry, word processing, clerk typist, processing operator, receptionist, file clerk, record keeper
