Personal intermediate and long-term goals, coupled with the local market, determine the individual's placement activity within the community. Employment involves assessment, planning, job search strategies, job development, and job training.
Assessment
On site assessments assist people in identifying their job skills, interests and support needs. Opportunities to try different jobs are available throughout this service. Individuals who have identified a specific area of interest may elect to participate in single-site assessment. The single-site assessment assists them in determining their skill, commitment and stamina for a particular job in their expressed are of interest.
Planning
This process includes meeting with individuals and Riverfront staff to identify job interests, job skills, past work experience, support needs, and businesses to approach. Assistance is provided in the hiring process and initial job setup. (Assistive technology and workspace/equipment modifications are incorporated as appropriate.)
Job Search
Job search activities include preparing resumes, registration with Wisconsin Job Service or Minnesota Workforce Center, contacting employers, completing applications, attending interviews, and conducting other job search activities. The time frame for this pre-employment service is customized to the individual's need.
Job Development
Working relationships with businesses are established and maintained to identify job opportunities for the individual. A job may be carved to match the needs of the individual and the employer. Employers are educated regarding the ease of providing natural supports and site modifications.
Job Training
Individualized training is offered to assist with learning, job layout, and setup. Emphasis is placed on developing work site friendships. Employers and co-workers are "coached" to develop natural supports for the individual. |
