American Family Insurance and Wisconsin Energy Foundation Grants Support Riverfront Employment Services
Riverfront, Inc. has been awarded $2,000 from American Family Insurance and $500 from the Wisconsin Energy Foundation to purchase materials to enhance prevocational training at the Black River Falls work center. The center and its programs are designed to assist individuals in identifying their vocational goals, developing job skills in the career of their choice, and connecting with employment opportunities. The funds will support all three elements of Riverfront’s prevocational training: 1) soft skills training, 2) career planning, and 3) hard skills training. The training is targeted to five potential career paths including janitorial, retail, laundry, assembly, and document management and destruction services.
“Riverfront’s goal is to enable each individual to attain the highest wage possible and work in the setting best suited to that individual,” said Marcia Jagodzinske, Riverfront President and CEO. “American Family’s generous gift will help us meet that goal through prevocational training, which develops important communication skills, incorporates career planning and provides training in specific skill sets.”
For Riverfront program participants, the Black River Falls work center provides support in the same way a trade program or business training program might help another individual secure employment. Riverfront services provide individuals the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be competitive within the general workforce. With training and support, many individuals can find meaningful employment and as a result, benefit from greater independence and self-esteem. Furthermore, having a job enhances social interaction and acceptance in the community, contributing to a better quality of life.
