Local Grants Kick-off Riverfront’s La Crosse Worksite Improvement Project
Riverfront, Inc. has been awarded two grants that will be applied towards a facility improvement project at the La Crosse worksite. The Great Rivers United Way donated $1,200, and the City of La Crosse Community Development Block Grant provided another $5,488. The funds will be used towards the first priority of the overall project, ergonomic seating in the work areas.
The new seating will improve the work environment for the individuals with disabilities employed at the worksite. Each person will be able to adjust the chair to their specific needs, and a portion of the chairs will also have armrests.
“Many of our participants are restricted by a traditional physical work environment,” said Mary Kessens, President and CEO of Riverfront, Inc. “The new ergonomic seating will be more comfortable and productive. We expect this change may result in higher wages for some participants.”
The worksite improvement project plan includes additional ergonomic seating for the cafeteria, along with two conveyer belts and a commercial shredder to increase training opportunities and improve productivity. Riverfront is seeking additional funds to cover project expenses, which total $31,100.
